Tour Plan

Upon arrival, our Savanna Towers team will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Depending on your flight’s arrival time, there may be an opportunity to explore the town and its bustling local markets before settling in for a well-deserved night’s rest after your long journey.

Olerai Lodge is set amidst a tranquil acacia grove with Mount Meru rising majestically in the background. The name “Olerai” comes from the Maa word for acacia. Here, your safari experience begins the moment you arrive — with monkeys, porcupines, honey badgers, and a vibrant array of birdlife inhabiting the surrounding landscape.

Depart from Arusha in the early morning and journey into Tarangire National Park, a land defined by sweeping savannahs, towering baobab trees, and Tanzania’s largest elephant herds — sometimes numbering more than 300 individuals. This extraordinary ecosystem shelters an incredible diversity of wildlife: graceful impalas and elands, stately giraffes, sturdy buffaloes, and rare species such as the gerenuk and fringe-eared oryx. Predators including lions, leopards, hyenas, and cheetahs roam the plains, while more than 545 bird species — from vivid yellow-collared lovebirds to majestic raptors — fill the skies with color and song.

Feel the pulse of the wilderness on a guided walking safari along a secluded stretch of riverbank, where every track and rustle reveals another story of the bush. Wildlife frequently wanders close to our lodge, set deep within the park for a truly intimate connection with nature. As evening falls, unwind with a sundowner and watch the sky blaze with color over Tarangire — an unforgettable finale to your first full day on safari.

Begin your day in the company of the Hadzabe, one of Africa’s last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes. Step into their world as you join them on an early morning walk through the bush, observing their remarkable tracking and traditional hunting techniques. Capture intimate moments through respectful portrait photography and gain rare insight into a way of life that has remained unchanged for centuries.

After lunch, visit the Datoga tribe — skilled blacksmiths and artisans known for their intricate jewelry and hand-forged creations. Their craftsmanship and deep connection to the land offer a captivating glimpse into Tanzania’s rich cultural mosaic.

Later, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa’s most extraordinary natural wonders. Formed millions of years ago by a collapsed volcano, the crater shelters an unparalleled concentration of wildlife — from endangered black rhinos and powerful lions to hippos, gazelles, and vibrant flocks of flamingos shimmering on the lake’s surface. With its sweeping vistas and abundant life, this is one of the most spectacular game-viewing locations on Earth.

As the day winds down, retreat to The Plantation Lodge, gracefully set on the region’s red-brown hills. Each room and suite is individually styled, blending effortlessly with the lush gardens that surround them. The lodge’s intimate, owner-run charm is reflected in every thoughtful detail — an oasis of comfort, warmth, and understated elegance at the close of an unforgettable day.

Set in the remote Kogatende region between the Central Serengeti and Kenya’s Masai Mara, Mara Mara Tented Lodge offers a privileged vantage point over the Great Migration. From June to November, this dramatic landscape transforms into a living river of life, as thousands of wildebeest and zebras surge across the Mara River in one of nature’s most awe-inspiring spectacles.

Accommodations
The lodge features 20 elegant safari tents and 4 spacious bungalows, thoughtfully divided into two intimate camps to ensure privacy and a personalized experience. Each suite harmoniously blends modern comfort with the untamed beauty of the Serengeti — offering en suite facilities, panoramic views, and the soothing soundtrack of the wilderness.

Wildlife and Activities
Here, every day brings extraordinary encounters — from the thunder of migrating herds to the watchful eyes of lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Explore the surrounding plains on exhilarating game drives, guided bush walks, or bird-watching excursions led by expert naturalists. For a truly unforgettable perspective, soar silently above the Serengeti on a hot air balloon safari, watching the dawn unfold across the endless savannah.

Today’s journey takes you from the sweeping plains of the Serengeti back to Arusha, a scenic drive through ever-changing landscapes that reveal yet another facet of Tanzania’s beauty. For those wishing to shorten the journey, a scheduled or private flight to Arusha can be arranged, offering more time to relax before your departure.

Upon arrival, retreat to the tranquil embrace of Rivertrees Country Inn, a lush green sanctuary nestled between Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro. Once a historic coffee estate, Rivertrees exudes the warmth and character of a well-loved homestead. Spread across ten acres of fertile gardens and towering trees, the property offers a peaceful refuge alive with birdsong and the gentle murmur of the nearby river.

Charming cottages, elegantly rustic and secluded amid the greenery, provide the perfect setting to unwind and reflect on your safari adventures. Whether enjoying a final sundowner on the lawn or simply breathing in the crisp highland air, Rivertrees offers a serene and fitting close to your Tanzanian journey.

After a journey filled with extraordinary moments and unforgettable encounters, it’s time to bid farewell to Tanzania. As you prepare for your flight home, carry with you the sights, sounds, and spirit of the wild — from the whisper of the savannah grasses to the call of distant lions beneath star-studded skies.

Your memories, captured in photographs and etched in your heart, will forever tell the story of your adventure — a journey that lingers long after you’ve returned home. Safe travels, and until we meet again beneath the African sun.
